24"x36" Another composition featuring a small blue bottle and green satin. After working on small supports lately, it was refreshing to use larger brushes on this one.
I was recently invited to be a guest artist and presenter at a summer art program held in the Art Dept. at East Central University in Oklahoma, my Alma Mater. It was very cool to walk in to the Art Dept. after all these years. It's been about 12 years since I have been back, but as soon as I walked in, it felt like home. Within microseconds, I was greeted by that familiar smell of all things art. My presentation was actually in the Drawing studio, but I did get a chance to walk through the Painting studio, which was vacant at the time. I was pleased to see the obvious talent present in the paintings of various stages of completion. I thought back to the countless hours I had spent in that room.
Near the end of the day, I had an inquiry about one of my paintings I took as an example. It was the Broken Piecespainting. Unfortunately this painting was for sale on eBay and I wasn't sure if it had sold or not. Sooo, I went into one of the classrooms with interent access to see if the auction had ended with a sale or not. It had sold on eBay, but we worked out a commission for a similar piece..no big deal. BUT, in that classroom that I had been next door to ALL day was one of my paintings from back in the day. When I graduated in 1996, the E.C.U. Art Department wanted to keep one of my paintings. I was honored and humbled back then, and even more so seeing it hanging after all these years. This painting is 4 feet by 6 feet.
A very reflective chrome horse. I have painted this old hood emblem several times, but this by far the largest version. This canvas gave my little easel a workout.
This obviously is not my normal style, but I wanted to do something a little different. I have been painting large pieces lately(commissions and for galleries), but finally had some time to work on something I have wanted to paint for quite awhile. This painting is based on a sketch in one of my many sketchbooks filled with surreal imagery.
I just received an email that my work is the featured post on the blog "lines and colors". It's basically a quick overview of my work written by Charley Parker. If you visit the blog, be sure to browse around...there is an amazing variety of artists and styles to check out from previous posts.
Awhile back, I mentioned that I was sending pieces to a gallery for consideration. I'm pleased to announce that the paintings sent were accepted. The name of the gallery is Diamond-Newman, and is located in Boston, MA. You can find me by clicking on the "What's New" link. The other gallery that I am represented by is called American Fine Art, and is located in Dallas, TX. I am not yet on their website, but hopefully will be soon.
I have been selected to be the next reviewed artist on the website Art and Critique. Honestly, I had never heard of this website until I was nominated, by Vic Vicini, to be included in a poll to choose the next artist. After reading some of the reviews from the site, I am honored to be included and have my work reviewed. You can check the review out and vote for the next artist to be reviewed at ArtandCritique.com Thanks to Vic for nominating me, and thanks to everyone who voted for me!
