Art and Words

24" x 48", oil on canvas

This is a new piece for an upcoming, unique show in Ft. Worth, TX. The show is unique because it combines visual arts with literary arts. Ten visual artists and ten writers were invited to participate. The visual artists were given a written work to create a piece based on, the writers were given an image from a visual artist to write about. This painting is based on the short story I was given.

Splash

40" x  30", oil on canvas
A new painting!
It took hours and hours to get my photo reference for this piece...splashing wine around the studio plus trial and error with camera settings and lighting equals just what I wanted! Aside from the Jordan painting, I usually don't have to try to capture actual motion in my reference photos. Pretty happy with how this turned out.

Jordan Vineyard & Winery

I was recently invited to participate in a juried art competition sponsored by Jordan Winery to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Jordan Winery created a challenging art competition for four cities. Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Dallas artists were challenged to create a piece based on their theme of combining a "Jordan" element and a "host city(Dallas)" element....."In honor of its 40th anniversary in 2012, iconic California vintner Jordan Vineyard & Winery has created the 4 on 4 Art Competition, a four-city initiative that challenges local artists to create a commemorative work of art that blends the elegance of Jordan wines with the flavor of each city". From the Jordan blog
My painting was selected to advance to the actual competition which was hosted by D Magazine and held at Rising Gallery in Dallas, TX. The event was last evening, and I was floored when I found out my painting was selected 1st place by the panel of celebrity judges. Mr. Jordan was on hand and couldn't have been nicer. I addition to supplying the prize for 1st place, he also purchased my painting and assured me it would hold a place of prominence in the Chateau. I was surprised and very honored to win and have Mr. Jordan think so highly of my painting.
Many thanks to Bryan Wetz of Rising Gallery who invited me to participate in the competition, the panel of judges, and the entire Jordan family.
If you want to see the other pieces entered in the Dallas show, check out the Jordan blog. I completely forgot to take my camera, and even forgot to take my iphone in, sorry for the lack of pictures! I'll try to round some up...but the event was packed, the art work was beautifully displayed and Jordan wine was flowing freely!
